Steven Shelales
Nutraceutical Scientist
Steven Shelales has been an expert on nutraceutical products for over 17 years. His experience studying nutraceuticals in an academic environment, advising the public on their use, and gathering both empirical evidence and anecdotal data has provided him a keen perspective on the usefulness, validity and limitations of natural therapies. Steven earned his Masters of Science in Medical Laboratory Science and Biotechnology from the University of Rhode Island, summa cum laude, specializing in natural products science, stem cell science and the organismal theory of evolution. His master’s literature review investigated the varied uses of beta glucans from mushroom sources, their potency and their potential uses in the future of medicine.
Steven’s research at the University of Rhode Island Pharmacognosy Lab involved studying novel sources of resveratrol, properties of rebaudioside-A and novel separation methods of reb-A from raw crude stevia extract, and the development of fast-dissolving films for nutraceutical delivery. He has broad knowledge of the scientific industry, having worked as a chemist at a chemical manufacturing and processing industrial facility, in quality control in the food industry, and in process development for biopharmaceuticals at a large biotech firm. Steven’s primary expertise lies in developing formulations and extracts from raw sources in a variety of delivery forms.
